The biggest surf competition in the state of Washington is under four weeks away. The 13th annual Clean Water Classic will have all the fixings you’ve come to know from great surfing to evening entertainment. The big difference this year is obvious, a change in date to October with hopes for better waves and weather.
The basic reason the date was changed to October 3-5 is because we listened to our competitors. After a few off years of high wind, spitting rain, and blown out waves the feedback about a move to the fall became louder and louder so we listened. Thanks to all of our competitors, volunteers, and supporters for the continued feedback so we can continue to shape this event and try and make every year better then the one before. That is one of the great things about this event as so much of it is volunteer run allowing for flexibility. Being volunteer focused, it allows for changes in dates, fresh ideas, and legitimate volunteer opportunities to help get the experience of throwing a surf competition. If you are interested in volunteering at this years CWC please contact Brice for more information.
Once again our title sponsor is Subaru of Puyallup who’s great support allows us to run a more effective, smooth, and fun weekend of surf and stoke. Other sponsors at this time to, name a few, are Lib Tech, Emergen-C, and the Islander Resort. To find a complete list of sponsors or to inquire about sponsoring the event please visit our sponsor page.
Also on the docket is a Saturday morning local youth surf camp put on by our friends and partners from Warm Current. This is a great group that provides surf camps to groups and communities who otherwise may not be able to experience surfing. Warm Current will also be collecting used and functional wetsuits, booties, gloves and boards for future camps, so if you have any spare gear please bring it along to donate.
Lastly, the extroverts out there will be happy to hear that there will be live music both Friday and Saturday night at the Islander Resort’s Half Moon Bay and Grill. The music Friday will run from 7-9pm and on Saturday from 7-9 with a DJ coming in from 10pm-midnight. Its going to be a great evening of celebration of surf in Washington so we look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks. For any questions about the event please contact Brice.
