A Guide to Sustainable Takeout in Seattle

Written by OFR | May 22, 2020 6:44:25 AM

In this moment where we are relying on curbside pick-up and takeout from restaurants, zero wasters, plastic-free warriors, and otherwise impact-conscious consumers might feel a little defeated when it comes to meal time. It’s hard to know ahead of time what your meal will come packaged in when ordering.

Surfrider is standing by our local restaurant industry during this challenging time. With a mission to reduce the world’s plastic footprint, we are showing extra love for the establishments listed below that are doing what they can to maintain sustainable practices by not providing Styrofoam containers, plastic bags or plastic straws, and providing utensils only upon request with takeout orders*.

And we’re looking for the community’s support to grow this list and keep it up-to-date. If you know of any Seattle-area restaurants that maintain the sustainable takeout practices noted above, please let us know and we will add them to the list.

To add a restaurant to this list, share your submission here.

This list will be updated as restaurants change their status.

In addition to supporting local restaurants through takeout and curbside pickup, you can do your part by properly disposing of any takeout containers.

*Please be mindful that small restaurants are being hit extremely hard by these mandatory dining room closures, and we cannot guarantee the availability of preferred packaging. If you receive a piece of packaging that is not in line with the criteria listed above, you may email us at OFR@seattle.surfrider.org, but please offer your eatery grace during this highly unusual time.
