RECAP: Earth Day Cleanup!

Thank you to everyone that came out for our Earth Day Cleanup at Golden Gardens! We had 98 participants for the Earth Day community cleanup at Golden Gardens. We kicked things off with a presentation from Rep. Liz Berry on the ReWrap Act and other legislative initiatives. Then, volunteers set out to clean the beach, parking lot, play areas, and green spaces in and around the park. Volunteers helped to sort, weigh, and dispose of the waste. The sun was out, the vibes were good and over 93 lbs. of trash and recycling were collected! This clean up has our highest turnout on volunteers yet!

RECAP: Private Cleanups

Updates from Brooke, our Beach Cleanup Coordinator

April 8 - DocuSign

We had about 15 volunteers from DocuSign come to Alki for a Monday morning cleanup. This was my second cleanup with their team; the first was in September 2023 for the company's Impact Month. They're planning on another Impact Month cleanup this year. They cleaned outside the waterfront restaurants and along the grass area, walkway, and beachfront.

April 19 - Alaska Airlines

We had about 25 volunteers from Alaska Airlines come to Greenlake Park for a Friday afternoon cleanup. This was my second cleanup with their team; the first was in October 2023 for their Impact Week. Surfrider is Alaska's corporate sustainability partner, so their Sustainability team is planning on several beach cleanups throughout the year. They cleaned the pathways and green spaces along the loop, field, and parking lot.

Interested in volunteering?

We are always looking for volunteers at our corporate beach cleanups. These events usually happen during normal working hours if you have some flexibility in your schedule to volunteer!

Did you know...we also have a Core Volunteer Slack channel where we post opportunities to help and other useful info? Email volunteercoordinator@seattle.surfrider.org  for an add!
