Protect Beach Access on the Olympic Coast

Protect Beach Access on the Olympic Coast

Our goal is to ensure that public access to an important local surf spot is maintained while continuing to protect coastal habitat.

The Olympic Coast is a special place for many reasons, with incredible rugged beaches, epic vistas, and amazing wildlife.  There are a few great waves to be found as well. Unfortunately, beach access has dwindled over the years, and every additional closure exacerbates overuse impacts at the few remaining public beaches. The OPC has worked diligently to spread awareness of this issue and encourage people to recreate responsibly through their #ProtectAccess, #RespectAccess outreach efforts. During the inreased levels of visitation to the coast during the pandemic, a popular surf spot was closed to the public, and continued public access going forward is not guaranteed. The OPC is working with the community to find a pathway forward that will maintain public access while respecting tribal boundaries and protecting newly restored coastal ecosystems.
